Irises containing a large amount of melanin appear black or brown. Less melanin produces green, gray, or light brown eyes. If your eyes contain very small amounts of melanin, they will appear blue or light gray. People with albinism have no melanin in their irises at all. Their eyes may appear pink because the blood vessels in the back of their eyes reflect light. Melanin production generally increases during the first year of a babys life, leading to a deepening of eye color. The color is often stable by about six months of age, but it may take as long as two years to fully develop. However, several factors can affect eye color, including the use of certain medications and environmental factors. Some people experience changes in eye color over the course of their lives. In some cases, people can even have eyes of two different colors. Even the genetics of eye color inheritance isnt as cut-and-dried as was once thought, as blue-eyed parents have been known (rarely) to have a brown-eyed child. Furthermore, not all babies are born with blue eyes. A baby may start out with gray eyes, even if they ultimately become blue.  Babies of African, Asian, and Hispanic descent are more likely to be born with brown eyes. This is because darker-skinned individuals tend to have more melanin in their eyes than Caucasians. Even so, a babys eye color may deepen over time. Also, blue eyes are still possible for babies of dark-skinned parents. This is more common in preterm babies because melanin deposition takes time. Humans arent the only animals that experience eye color changes. For example,  kittens are often born with blue eyes, too. When he was about to leave, his daughter asked him if it was necessary to leave. He replied by telling her that he was going to fight for her and for their family. His words had a very deep meaning and I was highly touched. He left to never return again as he lost his life in a suicide attack carried out on the armed forces by the militants in Afghanistan. Ever so often was an, Oh youll blend in, Youve grown so much, and I cannot believe youre already in high school. Eventually the praise died down and it was time to climb into bed. The first thing I came to realize was a large building pacted tightly together within a compound wall. As small as I am, i couldnt not seem to put the puzzle pieces together but luckily a map became my bestfriend. The schedule was confusing at first, since it was a long summertime before I had last read one. Nothing felt stable or ordered, everything seemed like it was going to be chaotic any minute. A few seconds later the bell rang, as I thought to myself how much I did not ever recall a harsh stop and ponder during the summer about miss the bell itself. The pattern went throughout the day as a class began, and after a long period a bell ended the period and began a new class. This went on for what felt like years. I walked through the halls and tried to categorize exactly what type of people I would be dealing with and Ive realized the fact high school is anything but the type of events they describe in movies. Everyone seemed to fit each category perfectly, however it wasnt quite the match. These faces appeared more normal and friendly. I remember my imagination of what high school was like when I was younger. I was just dying to experience all the new and exciting things that awaited me. From sports to boys to all the partying, I just wanted to know what everything was like and now that Im finally here, I feel like I want to go back to when I was younger and not wish to grow up so much. As time goes on you find yourself getting to class earlier and earlier each day. Finding new routes, talking a little more, taking more time between classes and the tension eases. The days do not get harder, but the work and study habits do. Later days of the school year are always easier then the first few. Some say that high school was the best time of my life, just like others say that high school was the worst time in their lives. To be honest, I am not sure which category I fall into yet. Ive had a good start but I know high school wont be picture perfect for me. The only thing I can say is that I am learning.

The Power Struggle at the Occidental Child Development I have conducted ethnographic research at the Occidental Child Development Center where I have spent many hours participating and observing with the children of the center. I am not an outsider to this center, because I have been working with this particular bunch of children for a year, so I am well accepted when I asked to join in the games with the children. The center has a total 45 preschool students aging from 2-5 years old and seven staff members and five student workers. Throughout my research the director, teachers, and my fellow student workers accompanied me at all times, however I have not included all 45 children and all eight staff members. I have narrowed my research and included observations where children practice more power over other children, an example of personal agency, and an example of the family oriented atmosphere. To protect the anonymity of the children I have observed I have labeled the children according to their classroom and sex. In the following ethnography I refer to the Hungry Caterpillars, the Busy Bees, and the Terrific Tigers. The school is broken down into three classrooms according to the child’s age and skills. The two year-olds are the Hungry Caterpillars (HC), the three year-olds are the Busy Bees (BB), and the four year-olds are the Terrific Tigers (TT). The children are aware of their classroom names and often refer to them when addressing others or themselves. I must make a note that some of the children are held back because they lack certain skills they need before they can move onto the next classroom so I have also included the age of the children to clarify for the reader. One might think that this affe... ...ing to the Western notion that marks children as incompetent adults. I believe it would be valuable for ethnographers to use feminist methodologies to help redefine this Western notion of childhood, and give the children a chance to speak for themselves. Hollinger wanted to connect his beliefs to his readers in a way that he wanted to imply something in choosing to do what is good and right. In every social issue at hand there is always an equivalent step by step framework to be followed. The book’s weakness are the lengthy statements that bores readers easily, It may mislead readers since comprehension may be hard to acquire. It would be better if the author wrote it in a direct to the point manner. There are cases presented in the book that aids readers how to carefully analyze a real life scenario. It would be better for people not to complicate things as it is better if problems are looked down easily. In general the book is awesome since it tackles about foundations of ethical theories. Hollinger outlines much of the essential data needed so that readers will understand the areas of pastoral care, Christian ethics and its interconnection with public policy. An overall generalization is also given to see what does the author wanted to imply in this beautiful book. There were also judgments and ethical commitments presented in the second chapter of the book. The issues involving postmodernity and modernity treatment s discussed. But this is the chapter that lacks focus because vague explanations were given on how the society operates in modernity but does not make t in academics. The enticing part is that third part of the book presents figures about history tht guides readers on deciding in this contemporary world. A survey of recent Christian Ethics by Edward LeRoy is part of the book for readers to see an accurate statistics of the public’s opinion. Biblical ethics is also presented that shows a deeper connection of choosing to do the good things in life. The best reference is still the Holy Scriptures. Talking about culture and its relation to faith is also presented by Hollinger in this book. He cited examples like the delineation of Christ and Culture by Niebuhr and how the church is placed in the center of a more organized society. Christ should still stand up amidst the complexities of things I every culture. As the author concludes the book â€Å"the moral task before the Christian church today is immense. But God has called us, as he called Esther long ago in Persia, to be a divine presence for such a time as this† (Hollinger, 2002). For good to succeed it is our duty to devote our moral commitments against the complex world. It is in humility that people can find goodness and it is God who is the true foundation of everything we do (Hollinger, 2002, p. 272). The book is designed to let readers be aware that choosing good should incorporate a broad and deep understanding of the word goodness. Having reflections on the book made it easier for readers to understand what he is trying to point out. It is recommended to discuss a book like this in the classroom scenario so that all students ma practice the ethics of goodness inside the classroom and spread it outside as they grow. In September, another dramatic transformation of the monarchy led to the enthronement of Darius following Bardiya’s death. According to King Darius, he claims he is restoring the throne to the rightful Achaemenid house (Holland, 2005). King Darius claimed that he descended for a long line of eight kings in a genealogy that linked him to the family of the empire-founder Cyrus II through a mutual ancestor called Teispes. Tesipes was the great-grandfather of Cyrus II; however, King Darius has added a legendary progenitor called Achaemenes. He therefore claims that he belongs to a collateral line of the royal family. The authenticity of his claims notwithstanding, the fact that King Darius’s father and grandfather are still alive and are not kings may lead one to doubt the authenticity of his claims. Even if his claims are true, Darius is not the next in line of succession given that his father and grandfather are still alive. ... Following the death of Cambyses II in 522 BC, Darius rushed to Media, where in September he and his allied Persian nobles kill Bardiya, another son of Cyrus and brother of Cambyses II (Encyclop?diaBritannica, 2011). King Darius admitted but defended this deed and his own assumption of kingship on the grounds that the usurper was actually Gaumata, a Magian, who had impersonated Bardiya after Bardiya had been murdered secretly by Cambyses. Darius alleged that Cambyses secretly killed his brother Bardiya and that the new figure who was enthroned just before Cambyses’ death was an impostor called Gaumata. Thus, Darius desire to restore the throne to the rightful Achaemenes house. When the impostor threaten those aware of the usurpation with death, Darius and his allied Persian noble responded by slewing the impostor. The fact that the impostor body was not displayed publicly, as ot her rebel, makes one to think that Darius may have committed regicide (Cook, 1985). He had been arrested for his part in the Birmingham campaign, a non-violent protest planned by the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights and King’s Southern Leadership Conference. This movement was directed at Birmingham’s traders and the City Government. It was no secret that Birmingham was a city known for its highly visible discrimination against blacks. It was the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States (King, 1963). This discriminatory attitude emanated both from the white business class as well as the City Government. King’s response to the clergymen’s letter indicates why he was in Birmingham, since they had deemed him an ‘outside agitator.’ As President of the Southern Leadership Conference he was invited by one of its 85 affiliate organizations, namely the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights to be on call and come to their aid in respect of a non-violen t protest whenever deemed necessary. This he had accordingly done. King asserts that his movement of non-violence was based on a detailed investigation that included collection of the facts, negotiation, self purification and direct action (King, 1963). There had been Court injustices and bombings that have not even spared churches attended by the Negro community. While they had approached the City officials for negotiation, this had never been done in good faith. Consequently there was no resort but to protest non-violently. Before this protest they had even approached the traders requesting them to remove the discriminatory and humiliating signs from their shops but this was done half-heartedly- a few signs were removed here and there but ultimately replaced. It was evident that things were not going to improve to their satisfaction. That segregation is unjust is evident from the fact that it is not rooted in eternal or natural law. It is God that created men of all color. To quote both St. Augustine and
